The Manor House, Casa das Obras was built from 1770 to 1825 by João Teodoro Saraiva Fragoso (judge of the High Court in Porto and Captain General in Manteigas) and his wife, Ana Gerturdes Portugal da Silveira Valis de Verona. It has been in the family for more than two centuries; many generations have lived there and it now belongs to their descendants who keep the tradition.

Its restoration was directed by António Ribeiro Patrício Madeira de Portugal (1924-2001), an architect who with his special touch, designed and followed it in every detail. This restoration is present in every corner thus immortalising the memory of the man who, with art, gave a new life to this house and converted it to Turismo de Habitação.

As soon as you get to the Manor House you can feel the refinement and comfort everywhere. When you unpack in the nicely decorated bedroom that is coherent to the rest of the house, you find the warmth and peacefulness, combined in a splendid way through the furniture. Strolling through the different rooms, such as Sala da Lareira (Fireplace Room), Salão de Jogos (Games Room) and also Recanto da Leitura (Reading Corner), you can have a strengthening stay, while time seems to pass by in a different era.

In the morning you are welcomed by the sun, which breaks into the house and makes your breakfast a unique sensorial experience, while you relish the regional food. The rest of the day will be spent in harmony with the comfort of the house and with the wild beauty of the region. It is this union of space, light and ambience that waits for the guests and travellers, who will certainly strengthen here, make new friends and feel a strong will to come back…
